Literature is an integral part of world’s civilization. National language and literature are the main notions, which form cultural identity of any people. By discovering literary tradition of the country one can understand its beliefs, values and assumptions better. That is why we introduce you to the world of Belarusian literature.
In the literature of each nation there are such writers whose creative work most fully represent the spiritual life of the people and whose names have become symbolic. Such a writer in Belarusian literature is Yakub Kolas.
One can hardly overestimate the significance of the poetical heritage of Kolas for us, for present-day Belarusian literature, and for the republic’s cultural life. This heritage serves one great aim - developing man’s human and civic awareness and philosophical self-cognition, what is of great importance now, when our country is in the state of transition.
By UNESCO decision the birth centenary, 1982, of Belarusian poet Yakub Kolas has been entered in the calendar of memorable historical events and anniversaries of outstanding personalities. The national writer’s creative activity is a half-century chronicle of history of the Belarusian people, and its cherished dreams and achievements. Yakub Kolas has opened the Belarusian to the world showing the assiduity, talent and optimism, civic courage and heroism, and everlasting love for his Motherland.
