th, Communication student, Jordan Dowd, performed at the Sidebar & Grill in Providence. It was part of a continued jazz and cabaret series hosted by the restaurant. Dowd sang “On My Own” from the musical, Les Miserables. She has also sung the National Anthem for Bryant events and appeared last summer at R.I.’s Make-A-Wish fundraiser, performing the duet “Almost Paradise” with rocker Mike Reno from the band, Loverboy.
When adolescent novelist Erin Dionne spoke at our Writer’s Series back in 2008, she was awaiting the release of her first novel, “Model Don’t Eat Chocolate Cookies”. The book became a huge success with young readers and led to a three book deal with Penguin Publishing. On Saturday, January 23rd, Professors Susan and Stanley Baran went to the East Side book signing of Dionne’s highly anticipated second novel, “The Total Tragedy of a Girl Named Hamlet”. The Department of Communication congratulates Erin on a job well done and invites all students interested in writing to check out both novels. The author’s third book is expected to be released in 2011.
